Orb: Media Freedom

Discovered another cool application.. Orb MyCasting

Basically, it is an application that resides in your desktop. It allows you to stream your video, audios and even live TV programs (if you have a TV tuner, of coz). You can use any web-enabled media player with streaming capabilities to remotely play the media you want.

Sharing your digital media can be easily done via an email invitation or url.

One of the feature that I like is remote recording of TV programs. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition, you may notice that MSN Remote (the plugin to do remote recording) won't work for Singapore coz there is no electronic program guide for Singapore. Now, with Orb MyCasting, you can login the portal, and do remote scheduling for your TV recordings.

Check out this cool application @ http://www.orb.com/ !

pfingo

Just when I'm thinking what to blog for the day...

pfingo has a new software update! (argh... I was a bit slow in discovering this)

pfingoTALK PC Softphone v2.4.2RC now supports initial support for firewalls and proxies! This means that you can now use it behind your corporate firewalls (in most cases).

For those who do not know what pfingo is ... here's a brief introduction.

pfingoTALK - something like SkypeOUT where you can make a call out from your computer to landlines/mobile phones. The main difference between pfingoTALK and SkypeOUT is pfingoTALK will provide u with a 3 xxx xxxx Singapore phone number. Which means... besides calling out from your desktop (or even your mobile phones -- those that support wifi), you can receive calls on your desktop from landlines/mobile phones!

pfingoACTIVE - A Java application that can be run on most mobile phones which enables you to have features like push mail, IM (i.e.: MSN), RSS feeds, Calendar, etc.

See https://www.pfingo.com/experiencepfingo.html for more details.

Paper-based Computing

Came across this cool gadget from Digital Life.

Imagine having this cool pen for Uni lectures!

Some of the things that it is supposed to do:
- Listen to your lecture by just tapping on your handwritten notes.
- Share and email your written & audio notes to your classmates.
- Translate a word or phrase by writing it on paper while traveling.

Watch the videos @ http://www.livescribe.com/sneakpeek/index.html

I would love to do a POC for this pen! lolz...
